As you know, removing backsplash is not an easy task, as it involves quite a bit of demo and re-purposing work. With the right set of backsplash tools and some help, it can be possible to complete over a weekend. Our backsplash experts have experience removing backsplash from bathrooms, mudrooms, kitchens and commercial areas.
Here is a list of our recommended backsplash tools that our experts use.
Prepare the Working Area
We begin by covering the working area to ensure our clean up process is as minimal and smooth as possible. We also recommend having everything taken off the countertop or floor (if in the bathroom). It is also important that all outlet covers are removed and breakers are shutoff for those outlets.
Cutting the Caulking
The caulking joins the tiles with the countertop, so we start by cutting the caulk line. This is done using an utility knife. All the caulking is removed and cleaned up so that all gaps are opened up.
Remove the Grout
To remove grout, we use a grout remover to strip out all the grout and use a dry vacuum to clean up the area again. Once the grout has been removed, this will give us space between each tile.
Tile Removal
We now can use a prybar and other tools to remove each tile. Tile glue is incredibly strong, and can make it difficult to really remove tiles from the wall. In some cases, this can also cause some damage to the wall.
Drywall Repair and Cleanup
The damaged drywall is then repaired and all the broken tiles and cleaned up and sent to the local area dump.
